Site Reliability Engineer

Job Description:

The Site Reliability Engineer is responsible for monitoring systems, ensuring responsiveness to alerts, and improving application stability and supportability. This role will focus on automation, scalability, and performance of systems including the core banking application and the digital channels. Responsibilities Monitor Episys core banking application, the digital channel logs, and performance reporting to ensure adherence to established service levels Design and implement automations for routine processes Establish a high level of personal credibility and build strong relationships with team members and departments Use site reliability expertise to collaboratively work with other technical teams to provide guidance and ensure systems and solutions are scalable and reliable Research and recommend new technologies for compatibility, expandability, ease of use, and supportability Create and maintain excellent documentation including workflows, procedures, and troubleshooting Provide on-call support on a rotating schedule or as needed for emergency situations, including outside of normal business hours Review, evolve, and assist with disaster recovery plans on production environments Provide architecture design reviews and feedback for new and existing systems, making recommendations for design modifications to maximize availability and performance Build monitors and alerts to ensure timely notifications on the health of critical systems Develop scripts used for batch job scheduling assist with job schedules to ensure stability and efficient use of machine resources Ensure sufficient logging, monitoring, and alerting strategies around availability, latency, and overall system health Scale systems sustainability through automation and evolve systems by pushing for changes that improve reliability and velocity Support the day-to-day maintenance with a focus on reducing toil or technical debt of the applications while maintaining a high degree of system availability Assist with stress testing Assist in the facilitation of the proper operation of site reliability related technologies including the Symitar host and third party systems that interact with the Symitar system. This includes Proper monitoring Ensuring automated jobs run as scheduled and logs are completed in accordance with established credit union policies and procedures Oversee the coordination with system vendors for the repair of any software or hardware problems Ensure routine preventive maintenance is performed according to established standards Maintains accurate and appropriate change control records Keep management advised of any on-going problems not being resolved satisfactorily or that prevent the fulfillment of responsibilities Participate in training activities within your department or branch and with the learning and talent development department such training helps to ensure staff compliance with Credit Union policies and state and federal regulations and laws Perform other duties and assist other employees, as assigned Experience Associate s or bachelor s degree, with a technical major, such as engineering or computer science is preferred Previous experience working in a Software Development, Dev Ops, Site Reliability Engineering, or Infrastructure position or team. Proficient in one or more general purpose programming (E.g., Java, C) and scripting (E.g., Python, PowerShell) languages Knowledge of various SQL languages (E.g. DDL, DQL, DML) Experience with automation tools (E.g. OpCon, Ansible, etc.) is required Exhibit a positive attitude, approachable demeanor, and commitment to excellence A high level of interpersonal skills, with a focus on rapport-building, listening, questioning skills, and ability to relate to other people at their knowledge level Aptitude to learn new technologies quickly Ability to create and maintain detailed schematics and other documentation for system and product solutions Ability to apply research and analytical techniques to the design and development of new and existing systems and products Curious and innovative nature Adapt to changes in the work environment, manage competing demands, and handle frequent change, delays, or unexpected events with poise Ability to work independently as well as cooperatively in a team-oriented environment Ability to exercise good judgment in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions Ability to work well with all employees, including managers, AVPs, VPs, and executives as well as softwareIT vendors Ability to solve problems efficiently and accurately and handle complex details Ability to debug and optimize code and automate redundant tasks Thorough understanding of the SDLC (Software Development Lifecycle) Experience with system and product performance, reliability, and availability Passionate about process and automation Able to manage and prioritize multiple tasks independently, while remaining flexible to changing requirements Exhibit superior member service and passionate about delivering quality results in a timely manner Accepts responsibility and delivers high-quality results Is open and responsive to change and demonstrates a commitment to the process of continuous improvement by identifying and responding actively and with sensitivity to the needs of all employees Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality, remain open to others ideas, and exhibit willingness to try new things Ability to develop, review, and follow documented procedures Organized, good analytical problem solving skills Keen understanding of security risks and evangelize the importance of following security procedures Must be available outside of normal business hours to assist in recovery in the event of a failure or outage of a critical credit union system.
