Admissions Counselor Job no: 573084 Work type: Support Staff Pay Grade: 12 Major Administrative Unit / College: Arts & Humanities, Residential Coll In Department: Residential College Arts & Human Dean 10006257 Salary: Salary Commensurate with Experience Location: East Lansing Categories: Full Time (90-100%), Administrative Professionals- AP, Administrative/Business/Professional, Union Working/Functional Title RCAH Recruitment Coordinator Position Summary The Residential College in the Arts and Humanities (RCAH) at Michigan State seeks an innovative and enthusiastic professional committed to the mission of a living learning community to serve as the RCAH Recruitment Coordinator. Reporting to the Associate Dean of Students, the RCAH Recruitment Coordinator will help promote inclusion and diversity through recruitment, advising, and support of students. We are seeking a student-centered professional to join our team who approaches the work with adaptability, creativity, and a sense of humor. The primary roles of this position include: RECRUITMENT (70%) : Share the story of RCAH in one-on-one conversations and presentations with groups from 15-150 participants, identifying students who would flourish in the residential college setting, and developing relationships with high school counselors and staff. Partner with the student affairs and communications teams to develop innovative recruitment strategies, activities, and communications that engage diverse audiences and stakeholders. Create strong collaborations both on and off campus by representing the college at a variety of planning meetings, presentations, visits, and fairs, including both in- and out-of-state travel. Develop and maintain relationships with the MSU Office of Admissions and partners in the MSU Residential Colleges to strengthen student recruitment initiatives. ACADEMIC ADVISING AND STUDENT DEVELOPMENT (30%): Foster student development through thoughtful conversations, empathy for students' individual paths, and engaged listening. Advise students on course selection and progress toward graduation, exploration of high impact practices, and personal and professional development. Refer students, as necessary, to other University units for assistance with education, career, and personal concerns. Promote a community committed to inclusion and productive dialogue for students through programming and student leadership development. Partner with student organizations to strengthen communication, student involvement, and collaboration among organizations. Unit Specific Education/Experience/Skills Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing a four year college degree program; six months to one year of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in admissions, counseling, public relations, student services or related area, including implementing programs and schedules, making formal presentations, and working with the public; experience with database, spreadsheet, desk top publishing and/or presentation software; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. May require conversational proficiency in a foreign language Desired Qualifications Master's Degree in student affairs, educational administration, counseling, or related field. Background in recruitment or admissions, with an understanding of developing relationships with prospective students, families, and high school staff. Background in supporting and developing students from diverse backgrounds, including race, ethnicity, socioeconomic status, gender identity, and ability. Ability to manage large scale projects, events, and programs. Background in the Arts, the Humanities, or Community Engagement. Understanding of the benefits of a small, liberal arts environment. Commitment to one's own growth and development as a professional in student affairs. Strong communication skills. Ability to adapt message to a variety of audiences. Familiarity with a variety of communication strategies, including social media. Strong collaboration skills. Ability to partner with both internal and external stakeholders.
