Job no: 752988Work type: Support StaffPay Grade: 12Major Administrative Unit / College: College Of Natural ScienceDepartment: Kbs Ecology Project 10032499Sub Area: AP- ProfessionalsSalary: Salary Commensurate with ExperienceLocation: Hickory CornersCategories: Agriculture, Labor/Service/Maintenance, Research/Scientific, Administrative Professionals- AP, Full Time (90-100%), Non-UnionPosition SummaryJOB SUMMARY:Primary responsibilities of this position include: overseeing, coordinating and leading in-season field research, preparation, planting, and harvesting of the GLBRC and LTER research sites; communicating with professors, graduate and undergraduate students, university staff, industry and farm cooperators, and other stakeholders; designs and establishes field research plots; data management including data collection from field research plots, compilation, analysis, and publication of the data; oral and written communication of research results to stakeholders; operation and maintenance of research equipment to complete research protocols; daily field research inspection and maintenance to meet all research objectives.This position is funded through at least November 30, 2023, as part of research projects that has been continuously funded since 2007 (GLBRC) and 1988 (LTER). Extension of position contingent upon funding. This is a full-time off-campus position located at the Kellogg Biological Station (KBS) in Hickory Corners. KBS is Michigans largest Agricultural Experiment Station and is located 10 miles northeast of Kalamazoo, about 55 miles to the southwest of East Lansing.Unit Specific Education/Experience/SkillsKnowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing a four-year college degree program in the specific field of research employment or related science field such as Bachelor's degree in the agronomy, environmental science, or a related area of natural resource science; three to five years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in overseeing research projects and laboratory operations, operating and maintaining a variety of laboratory equipment, performing specialized and difficult analytical and research techniques, and designing research experiments in an area related to research being performed; may require software specific to the area of research such as work experience in agriculture, including knowledge of crops and research farm equipment; ability to operate research farm equipment using GPS; ability to repair and maintain farm equipment to the highest standard; computer knowledge including word processor, spreadsheets, and research-based harvest software; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
