Position Summary

The Learning & Development Manager will oversee the strategy design, development and delivery of training programs and initiatives that support and advance MSUFCU's strategic business objectives. The primary responsibilities include the design, development, maintenance and implementation of learning programs. The Learning & Development Manager partners with leaders to stay well-informed of ongoing employee development needs, and change efforts that drives the support of strategic organizational initiatives. The L&D Manager develops strategies around development, design, creation and delivery of learning and development programs and initiatives that are relevant, timely, relatable, and measurable to embed learning in the MSUFCU culture.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Directs Learning & Development team through research and implementation of learning programs to improve organizational performance, capability, and the work environment
  • Ensures learning programs are compliant with all applicable policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements and guidelines
  • Directs design, planning, and implementation of organizational training programs aligned with the objectives, goals, and strategy of the organization
  • Advises on and advocates for a learning model that demonstrates an investment in employees continuous development and support for employees becomes an expected norm and part of MSUFCU's culture
  • Stays up-to-date on leading-edge learning theories, applications, and tools
  • Conducts needs assessments and makes strategic learning recommendations based on business priorities
  • Designs and oversees content development and implementation of targeted solutions to a range of audiences
  • Identifies desired behaviors and skills through research and strategy for an optimal course of action
  • Partners with business leaders to develop learning and development programs and curriculum project plans that are relevant, targeted, attainable, and measurable to the talent development strategy
  • Participates with leadership to identify needs and establish strategic plans for learning and development, including the development of internal and external cost-effective measures
  • Creates and maintains learning culture across MSUFCU while cultivating relationships with leadership
  • Evaluates and audits the effectiveness of the programs identifying process and content issues and problems, and recommend adjustments to the programs to continually enhance and improve initiatives and programs
  • Establishes metrics and evaluation strategy for learning initiatives to measure effectiveness at all levels
  • Uses evaluations from participants, managers and L&D Team to prepare and present summary reports and recommendations for management that outline training results and impact
  • Leads, builds, and develops the organization-wide Learning & Development team through individual and departmental goal setting and the performance reviews
  • Leads the Learning and Development team through coaching and mentoring
  • Identifies, implements, and oversees learning management system (LMS), and evaluates training outcomes
  • Tracks and analyzes the impact of professional development programs and skill development initiatives
  • Develops training plans for new products, technology, regulation, onboarding, and leadership development
  • Identifies and implements organizational development programs, processes, and training initiatives to proactively address organizational development and business needs, through a variety of delivery means (e.g., live, e-learning, self-paced, etc.) as appropriate for the target audience
  • Designs, delivers, and manages integrated learning program resources & materials through leadership of in-house assets or outside vendors (Includes managing vendor relationships and activities in support of training and development activities and programs)
  • Researches, oversees and assesses external vendors for training programs, materials and equipment and makes necessary recommendations to management
  • Assesses, and recommends appropriate technology, tools, and resources to execute on learning and development strategy
  • Develops future-forward training structure and strategy to enhance organizational transformation to support evolving organizational objectives. Establishing highly effective processes, structures, team culture, management systems and technology
  • Approves new training techniques and suggests enhancements to existing training programs and methods (including e-learning, games-based platforms and other digital based tools for the remote learner)
  • Ensures training programs and materials are instructionally sound through revisions, and content is consistent and inter-connected across all programs
  • Delivers, and facilitates the implementation of training programs and presentations utilizing the appropriate developed or purchased materials
  • Determines the most effective delivery method and tools to address the particular identified needs to ensure achievement of objectives. In addition, develops and utilizes teaching aids as needed.
  • Identifies new development topics and methods through benchmarking, networking, participating in conferences, workshops, programs, and researching best practices
  • Promotes and markets services of the Learning & Development to support organizational objectives
  • Participate in training activities within department or branch and with the learning and development department; such training to assist with employee compliance with Credit Union policies and state and federal regulations and laws
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required

  • Bachelor's Degree in related field (Communications, Organizational Development, Business administration, Human Resources Management) required
  • 5+ years of experience in a Learning & Development role
  • 3+ years of experience in a Learning & Development management role
  • Certified Professional in Learning and Performance (CPLP) credential (or similar credential) preferred
  • SHRM Certified Professional (SHRM-CP) or SHRM Senior Certified Professional (SHRM-SCP) preferred
  • Strong knowledge and experience of the end-to-end learning process, i.e. learning needs assessment, program design, and delivery, and learning evaluation and assessment
  • Exceptional project management skills across medium and large scale projects
  • Exceptional training development skills as well as the ability to prioritize, plan, and coordinate projects, and manage resources so that department objectives are accomplished efficiently
  • Responsible for improving the competency level via training of all customer-facing roles
  • Ability to lead a fast-paced, growing team
  • Solid understanding of on-line training concepts, materials and issues
  • Demonstrated knowledge of adult learning methods, theories, concepts and techniques
  • Well-developed verbal, written, presentation, facilitation and communication skills with proven ability to deliver exceptional service to all stakeholders
  • Solid interpersonal skills along with the ability and willingness to respect and value the differences and perceptions of different groups/individual in addition to the ability to provide efficient and quality service
  • Ability to supervise, coach, and manage cross-functional teams, and direct reports on a daily basis
  • Experience leading developmental initiatives. I.e. training, coaching, learning initiatives
  • Ability to direct, delegate and work with leadership, a staff development team, managers and business unit leaders on enterprise level initiatives and projects
  • Ability to strategically develop and design in-person, virtual, and blended learning programs using a variety of instructional design principles to capture a wide range of learning styles
  • Solid instructional design, facilitation and presentation skills in addition to the ability to present training material and information to participants and facilitate their learning to achieve desired learning results
  • Proven organizational skills with the ability to problem-solve and manage multiple urgent priorities in parallel
  • Experience implementing and managing a learning management system (LMS)
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills as well as strong attention to detail
  • Outstanding self-initiative, personal accountability, and follow through
  • Exceptional leadership skills to build consensus and execute departmental and organizational goals
  • Ability to understand, interpret, and communicate policies and practices to align with Credit Union core values and mission

Physical Demands and Work Environment

  • Required to travel to various locations that may occur evenings and Saturdays; occasionally with limited notice
  • Ability to utilize office equipment including work a computer, interact with others and moving about the department
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
  • Normal office environment where there is minimal discomfort due to temperature, dust, noise and other factors
  • Exposure to potentially hazardous condition, i.e. robbery. Receives detailed instructions and procedures to be followed to minimize the exposure
