Critical Incident Response Coordinator / Social Worker Job no: 610091 Work type: Support Staff Pay Grade: 12 Major Administrative Unit / College: General University Items Department: Counseling And Psychiatric Services 40001021 Salary: 46535.00 - 77000.00 Salary Commensurate Location: East Lansing Categories: Full Time (90-100%), Administrative Professionals- AP, Advising/Counseling, Health Care Professional, Student Services/Student Affairs, Union Working/Functional Title Critical Incident Response Coordinator Position Summary Michigan State University Center for Counseling & Psychiatric Services (CAPS) provides a wide range of mental health services for students on campus, including and not limited to: screening/triage appointments, individual and group therapy, psychiatric services, outreach and multicultural engagement, clinical care coordination, intensive integrated clinical services, critical incident response, and hospitalization coordination and support. MSU is a large university with many resources and excellent benefits for employees; the CAPS department is undergoing a significant period of growth and expansion at this time, including an expansion of our crisis response capacity. This position will coordinate the CAPS Critical Incident Response function. In the event of student death/natural disaster/community trauma, this coordination includes but is not limited to communication with campus and community partners; physical presence to provide outreach and clinical interventions for students, faculty, and/or administrators; and education and training of staff members. This position is not a generalist position; it is a SPECIALTY position for Critical Incident Response and crisis intervention. Prior and/or related experience will be necessary to complete the essential functions of this position. A significant amount of evening/weekend work may be needed in the event of a critical incident, along with an appropriate flexibility in scheduling to accommodate that work. A state LPC or LMSW license is required to complete the essential mental health/counseling service functions of this position. The position will report to the director of the Intensive Clinical Services Unit, and will work closely with staff and administrators in the Intensive Clinical Services Unit, Clinical Coordination/Care Management Unit, and the CAPS Screening/Triage System to ameliorate the impact of student mental health crises. As part of a multidisciplinary health team, they will communicate with other staff members to establish appropriate plans of care. They will provide mental health screening/triage services, clinical crisis and short-term stabilization services, facilitate collaboration between providers and on-/off-campus agencies, carry a small caseload of higher acuity patients through bridging services and/or the Intensive Clinical Services Unit (see CAPS website for details), provide recommendations for level of care for students in need of stabilization and ongoing services, administer and interpret limited assessment measures, and offer suggestions for programs and services focused on critical incident response and crisis stabilization. When clinically indicated during a mental health emergency, they may accompany students to the emergency room to support continuity of care, advocate for students and/or their families, and facilitate discharge planning; they may visit patients or families in hospital settings. This position may provide supervision to unlicensed or limited licensed trainees. The successful candidate will coordinate response to campus crises, engage with administration in our professional collaboration with hospital services, establish and maintain referral relationships with community and campus treatment providers, and demonstrate a commitment to multiculturalism and serving under-represented/under-served populations. Unit Specific Education/Experience/Skills Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would acquired by completing one or two years of graduate study beyond a Bachelor degree, such as a Masters in Social Work, Masters in Counseling or Psychology; one to three years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in counseling in a health/mental health environment; or an equivalent combination of education and experience; and licensure as a Social Worker or Counselor by the State of Michigan. Desired Qualifications Excellent verbal/non-verbal communication skills. Ability to work with a multi-disciplinary team. Previous clinical experience working with adolescents and/or adults in crisis. Experience in a multidisciplinary setting with diverse college student populations from a multicultural/intercultural perspective. Previous administrative experience with critical incident response coordination or significant clinical experience with critical incident response coordination. Previous clinical experience with crisis stabilization, and interactions with hospital systems and higher level of care settings. High tolerance for chaotic, intense situations. Knowledge of electronic medical record documentation. Full licensure for 3 years as social worker/counselor in the state of MI Required Application Materials Resume Cover Letter Copy of State License Work Hours Normal Clinic hours are from 9AM-6PM Monday-Thursday during academic semesters.
