Job Description:

Hybrid - 3 days on-site/ 2 days remote Responsibilities

• Strategic Planning and Execution: Develops, implements, and maintains the accounting management system by making and communicating key decisions regarding policy, procedure, and metrics.
• Leadership: Directs and coordinates activities of accounting staff. Assigns responsibilities to roles, delegates' authority for accounting group members, and remains accountable.
• Efficacy and Integrity: Assures accounting management system integrity and efficacy through review and reports on key performance metrics, notes opportunities for improvement and improves accounting management system.
• Consultation: Assists other departments as they develop strategies, establish objectives, and make decisions that could have a financial impact on the organization.
• Risk Mitigation: Ensures that all accounting processes align with GAAP and current financial regulations. Including but not limited to federal and MSU policies and regulations. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSA's):
  • Comprehensive understanding of GAAP standards and regulations.
  • Strong strategic-thinking skills with an ability address ideation, development, and execution of programs that are critical to the accounting system of the laboratory.
  • Demonstrated consultative approach: excellent communication and influencing skills to communicate effectively and credibly, both verbally and in writing, with audiences at all management levels
  • Ability to analyze and synthesize data from multiple sources to identify themes and develop compelling recommendations
  • Ability to proficiently use Microsoft Office Suites, Accounting Management Systems, and/or Enterprise Resource Programs, accompanied by the aptitude to learn new or evolving software and systems.
  • Ability to support and uphold the values of the organization while balancing future liabilities and mitigating risk.Core Competencies

    • Develop, record, analyze and present metrics to demonstrate efficacy and add-value of assigned work scope Desired Qualifications
      • More than six years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in research and/or government contracting environment supporting financial analysis, direct and indirect budget forecasting, and cash management
      • Master of Accounting or Master of Business Administration degree with coursework and/or certification in contracts
      • Certification as a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or Certified Management Accountant (CMA)
      • Experience with Accounting Management Systems and Enterprise Resource Programs (ERP).
