Digital Communications Manager

Job Summary
The College of Arts & Letters (CAL) at Michigan State University seeks applicants for a Digital Communications Manager to direct public relations, earned media, social media, and digital execution for our dynamic marketing office team. The College is looking for an energetic candidate who has the ability to multitask, prioritize and manage priorities; who has exceptional written and oral communication skills; and who is a strategic thinker with a proven ability to craft communication materials across the web, social media platforms, email, and public relations (PR) organizations through software and web applications to maximize marketing efforts. This position reports directly to the Marketing Director in the College and will be a key team member within the CAL Marketing Office staff including the Senior Writer, Videographer, Graphic Designer, and Web Manager.

Job Summary
Successful candidates for the position will have a proven track record of leading content strategy across multiple communication platforms, with a focus on earned media and PR outreach. The successful candidate will:
- Identify and create content in order to amplify our college voice across digital platforms.
- Write and compose content for social media, email campaigns, and PR efforts across our broad audience including students, faculty, alumni, and donors.
- Coordinate and create content for distribution for web, earned media, social media, and marketing communications support.
- Prepare reports or dashboards in order to inform others about the public relation efforts and activities.
- Develop and/or assists in producing communications and marketing collateral digitally for web, recruitment, and fundraising efforts.
- Develops ideas in conjunction with faculty and administrators while working with Marketing Office staff to produce public relations materials targeted to specific audiences to enhance reach, share, and engagement.
- Lead college level email newsletter campaigns.
- Lead our PR software application (Cision) and identify opportunities where to amplify our voice as a College through online new publications, journalists, radio, TV, and social media.
- Lead and manager our social media strategy and execution across the College while working with interns to create content and multimedia.
- Using primary and secondary research and other data to guide data informed decision-making.
- Evaluating digital campaigns (email campaigns, social media, PR efforts) progress and outcomes while offering recommendations to enhance our engagement with our audiences.

Minimum Requirements:
The job requires: knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing a four-year college degree program in Journalism, Marketing, Communications, Public Relations, Advertising, Writing, English, or related degree types.
- Three to five years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience communications or marketing roles.
- Experience leading or managing a variety of marketing channels such as social media, email campaigns, PR efforts, and web content.
- Ability to use, track and make data informed decisions on content.
- May require intern supervision or experience with website editing, social media, maintenance, and communication.
- Must be experienced and comfortable communicating through social media and email software channels.
- Project management and problem-solving skills with an ability to create project plans a plus.

Desired Qualifications:
- At least seven years working in a journalism, public relations, publishing, or a communications field.
- Knowledge of working, managing, or editing in a Content Management System (CMS), PR software and social media platforms.
- Understanding of public relations outreach and how to track and identify opportunities for amplification.
- Track record of successful social media, email, and PR campaigns.
- Exceptional oral communication skills and the ability to lead projects from idea to execution.
- Outstanding verbal and written skills, with the ability to demonstrate these skills with internal and external stakeholders, dean's office, and University administrators.
- The ability to proactively seek digital content ideas from faculty, students, and alumni.
- Experience with digital content strategy through social media, e-newsletters, news and PR.
- Experience in higher education and/or agency experience a plus but not a requirement.

Additional Requirements:
- May require valid vehicle operator's license where needed to perform duties of the position.
- Other skills and/or physical abilities required to perform duties of the position.
- This position requires, or will require prior to the completion of the probationary period: knowledge of basic personal computer terminology and operations, and the ability to use e-mail and the Internet.
