Job Opportunity Job ID: 26875 Positions Location: East Lansing, MI Job Description General Purpose of Job: The Description: Positions Location: East Lansing, MI Job Description General Purpose of Job: The Sparrow Care Network (SCN) Medical Director is responsible for implementing initiatives that will lead to the achievement of Clinical Integration and result in an innovative network providing the best care in the most efficient way. The Medical Director has primary responsibility for SCN's efforts related to physician engagement, performance improvement, and the ongoing development of the SCN Quality Program. The Medical Director is expected to lead the SCN Quality Advisory Committee and function in a dyad model with the operational leadership of SCN and the Sparrow Population Health Service Organization (PHSO). Essential Duties: This job description is intended to cover the minimum essential duties assigned on a regular basis. Caregiver may be asked to perform additional duties as assigned by their leader. Leadership has the right to alter or modify the duties of the position. Key Responsibilities: In working toward the advancement of the objectives of SCN, the Medical Director will:

  • Coordinate the continued development of SCN Chapters, for the purpose of improving the quality and the efficiency of care provided, as well as physician engagement with SCN.
  • Lead the physician engagement efforts to develop SCN's network, including the establishment of integrated value-based relationships with independent physicians and organizations across the continuum of care.
  • Lead the Quality Advisory Committee to monitor and develop the SCN Quality Program, including leading remediation efforts with low performing physicians.
  • Facilitate the process by which the Quality Advisory Committee will develop the vision for population health management and continuous improvement. This will include the optimization of electronic health records and the establishment of performance reports at the physician, organization, and network level.
  • Execute clinical initiatives, including the development of high-level communications to organizational executives and stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with Physician participants to identify opportunity areas for value improvement.
  • Assist in the evaluation of opportunities associated with participating in innovative programs and demonstrations, including payer-based programs, to further the transformation to value-based care.
  • Represent Sparrow, SCN, and the PHSO on key strategic partner or payer governance committees and/or workgroups.
  • Coordinate, align, and oversee multiple committee initiatives.
  • Provide clinical leadership to SCN and the PHSO. Job Requirements General Requirements * Board Certified in a Clinical Specialty.
    Work Experience * Experience with clinical-effectiveness research, evidence-based medicine, and emerging models of population health management. * Demonstrated ability to plan, organize, prioritize, and manage multiple ongoing, concurrent projects. * Working knowledge of statistical analysis and use of data to study and improve process performance and reduce variation. * Basic understanding of report writing and the analytical development process. * Able to lead and work in collaboration with a Board and senior executive team. * Experience in preparing and delivering written and oral reports. * Knowledge of: o Healthcare industry and operations, within medical groups, hospitals, and related settings across the continuum of care. o Major quality improvement efforts (PQRS, HEDIS). o Chronic care delivery models, such as Wagner Chronic Care Model and the Patient-Centered Medical Home Care. o Value-based payment models, including an understanding of services impacted by managed care and health reform legislation. * Working knowledge of the development, implementation, and/or oversight of quality improvement efforts (i.e. knowledge and application of six sigma, Lean, total quality management, continuous quality improvement, and/or similar methodologies.) * Experience in the design, monitoring, and/or implementation of programs to improve patient outcomes and financial performance. * Experience in the development, implementation, and/or oversight of provider compensation and financial incentive programs (e.g. pay-for-performance, gain sharing, shared savings, co-management). * Experience with researching, developing, and implementing clinical programs, such as care management, disease management, health coaching, or preventive health programs.
    Education * Medical degree (MD, DO) * Master's degree (MPH, MHSA, or similar) - preferred.
    Specialized Knowledge and Skills * Ability to facilitate difficult conversations with physicians and office leadership regarding performance concerns. * Demonstrated ability to plan, organize, prioritize, and manage multiple ongoing, concurrent projects. * Working knowledge of statistical analysis and use of data to study and improve process performance and reduce variation * Able to lead and work in collaboration with SCN Board Members and executive teams * Understanding of LEAN and Six Sigma process improvement strategies
    Sparrow Health System (SHS) is seeking a dynamic board-certified Physician to serve as the part-time Medical Director of Sparrow Care Network SCN). The Medical Director is responsible for implementing initiatives that will lead to the achievement of Clinical Integration and result in an innovative network providing the best care in the most efficient way. The Medical Director has primary responsibility for SCN's efforts related to physician engagement, performance improvement, and the ongoing development of the SCN Quality Program.
