This position includes the oversight of capital projects and will provide Civil Engineering support and apply intensive and diversified principles and practices and makes independent decisions that apply to large academic institutions; visual inspection of construction work as necessary, analysis, design, and support of maintenance operations. Leads and/or supports project teams (internal and outside consultants) in developing plans and specifications for new construction, campus utility and road infrastructure, building alterations, and improvements to campus facilities. Review internal and outside consultant projects drawings, specifications, and other construction documents to ensure the design intent and campus standards are met, and report findings as required. Works with senior engineers and project managers on designs, studies, planning, and troubleshooting of Campus Facilities and Infrastructure. Develops project/planning drawings in AutoCAD/CIVIL 3D and ArcGIS as required. Assist staff in clarifying plans and specification content; Issue construction directives when required. Provide technical support and troubleshooting assistance to Maintenance Operations, Mapping Coordinator, Landscape Architect, University Traffic Engineer, and other IPF Departments as required. Duties associated with this position involves working at construction sites, access to work areas by ladder, scaffold, hatchways, ramps, and similar means; outdoor work on a variety of floor and ground surfaces including climbing and entry into confined spaces; visual inspection of construction work as essential elements of construction inspection, analysis, and support of maintenance operations functions. Successful candidate must be innovative and communicate well in a team environment and with campus stakeholders. The position will be on-call for emergencies on projects they are assigned outside of normal working hours. Minimum Requirements: Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing a four-year college degree program in civil engineering; three to five years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in civil engineering; including design, methods, materials, maintenance, and operation of appropriate systems; drawing and/or design experience in AutoCAD/Civil 3D and the entire Microsoft Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook, Project, etc.); possession of a valid vehicle operator's license; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Desired Qualifications: Five years of technical skills associated with project design or construction experience is desired. Advanced course work in the field of architecture, engineering or a relevant field is desired. Professional Engineers License or has completed the Fundamental Engineering (FE) or Engineering in Training (EIT) exam and will obtain their Professional Engineering License within 2 years. Experience as an owner's representative or consultant for planning, design and construction projects in an institutional setting is desired. Candidate should have direct experience in all aspects of planning, design, and construction of Utility/Road Infrastructure Systems including commercial and industrial building systems; the ability to develop and interpret project documents (prints, contracts, etc.); and applicable Municipality, Utility/Road Infrastructure, safety, and building system codes; knowledge and experience developing construction specifications and maintaining their compliance and adherences; experience in construction costs and scheduling; and experience in the maintenance of building and/or utility infrastructure systems. Drawing design experience with ArcMAP, GIS Applications and thematic maps, point clouds, engineering modeling applications, cut and fill, estimating, and/or field surveying. Experience with Microsoft Windows.
